Philips has launched new M4 gaming monitors for competitive players and extended gaming sessions. The lineup includes the Philips Evnia 27M4P5501X, 27M4P5501U and 27M4P5500U. All three models feature 27-inch Fast IPS panels with QHD resolution.
The 2,560 × 1,440 resolution produces sharper images than Full HD. It also requires less processing power than 4K gaming. The monitors also introduce Philips Evnia’s new Nature-Eyecare technology. The system uses TÜV Rheinland-certified circular polarisation to create more natural-looking light.
Philips says the technology can reduce eye strain during lengthy gaming and viewing sessions.
Philips M4 Gaming Monitors Focus on Comfort
High refresh rates and low response times remain central to the gaming monitor market, but Philips Evnia is also putting greater emphasis on eye comfort. Traditional LCD monitors commonly use linear polarised light. According to Philips, prolonged exposure to this directional light may contribute to discomfort during extended gaming sessions.
The Nature-Eyecare system instead uses circularly polarised light, which spreads light in a spiral-like pattern. Philips says this creates a softer and more even viewing experience that can reduce concentrated irritation and visual fatigue.
The technology is particularly relevant for Malaysian gamers who may spend several hours playing competitive games, streaming content or working from the same computer setup. Gaming monitors are increasingly being used as multipurpose displays for entertainment, remote work and study rather than for gaming alone.
Philips has already introduced Evnia monitors in Malaysia across its 3000, 5000 and 6000 product families, including Fast IPS and QD-OLED models. The new M4 lineup expands the brand’s focus on high-performance displays with additional eye-care features.
Dynamic Blue-Light Control Divides the Display Into 48 Zones
The new models also include a dynamic low blue light system. An onboard processing chip controls the feature. The system divides the display into 48 separate zones. It avoids applying one setting across the entire screen. The chip scans and adjusts each zone through segmented and gradient tuning.
Philips says this method suppresses stronger blue light concentrations. It also avoids obvious yellow or orange color shifts. Conventional low blue light modes often change colors across the entire display. These changes can affect games, interfaces and cinematic scenes. The zoned system aims to preserve natural colors during longer gaming sessions. It also reduces potentially uncomfortable light output.
However, eye-care technology cannot replace healthy viewing habits. Gamers should still take regular breaks and maintain suitable viewing distances. They should also avoid playing in completely dark rooms.
Refresh Rates Reach Up to 425Hz
Performance remains a major part of the M4 range, particularly for players of competitive titles such as Counter-Strike 2, Valorant, Overwatch 2 and Marvel Rivals.
The flagship Philips Evnia 27M4P5501X supports a refresh rate of up to 425Hz when overclocked while operating at its native QHD resolution. But unless you’re a professional trained fighter pilot, that resolution isn’t likely to mean anything to you.
The 27M4P5501U and 27M4P5500U provide refresh rates of up to 320Hz at the same 2,560 × 1,440 resolution.
These specifications place the monitors firmly within the premium esports category. A higher refresh rate allows the screen to display more frames each second, which can make fast movement appear smoother and reduce the delay between a player’s input and the resulting image.
Reaching those refresh rates in modern games will nevertheless require powerful hardware. Malaysian buyers considering the 425Hz model will need a high-end graphics card and processor, particularly if they intend to play at native QHD resolution rather than lowering graphical settings.
For most casual and single-player gamers, the difference between 320Hz and 425Hz may be difficult to notice. Competitive players with systems capable of producing several hundred frames per second are more likely to benefit from the additional speed.
AI Features Target Image Quality and Competitive Play
All three monitors include AI-based picture quality processing intended to reduce motion blur and improve the appearance of lower-quality images.
Philips describes the feature as hardware-level high-definition reconstruction. It analyses the displayed content and applies image enhancements to improve perceived detail and clarity.
The monitors also include several AI-assisted gaming tools. Stark Shadow Boost can make details in darker areas easier to see, while Smart Crosshair changes the aiming reticle to improve its visibility against different backgrounds.
Smart Sniper provides additional magnification for long-range aiming, while Smart MBR Sync is designed to combine motion blur reduction with synchronization technology.
These features may offer practical advantages in competitive games, although their usefulness will depend on the title being played and whether tournament rules permit visual assistance tools.
HDR 400 Support and Adjustable Tone Mapping
The Philips Evnia M4 monitors carry VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification and support adjustable HDR tone mapping.
DisplayHDR 400 represents an entry point into certified HDR monitor performance. It can improve brightness, colour and highlight detail compared with a standard dynamic range display, although it does not provide the deep black levels or stronger contrast associated with OLED and Mini LED monitors.
The inclusion of adjustable tone mapping gives players more control over how HDR content is presented. This can be useful because games vary considerably in how they handle brightness, shadow detail and peak highlights.
Philips is positioning the feature for visually rich blockbuster games as well as films and streaming content. The QHD resolution should also provide a noticeable improvement in sharpness over Full HD when used on a 27-inch panel.
Adjustable Stand and Modern Connectivity
Each monitor comes with a SmartErgo stand that supports height, tilt, swivel and pivot adjustments. A fully adjustable stand can help players position the display closer to eye level and maintain a more comfortable posture. It also makes the monitor more practical for productivity work, content creation and vertically oriented applications.
The monitors use an anti-glare Fast IPS panel with a 25% haze coating. This is intended to reduce distracting reflections while retaining the wider viewing angles and color performance normally associated with IPS technology.
Connectivity includes HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4. HDMI 2.1 support may make the monitors more flexible for users connecting modern gaming consoles, laptops and desktop PCs, although the maximum available refresh rate may depend on the selected port, device and display settings.
A new Evnia AI Gaming Iconglow lighting system has also been incorporated into the design. It complements the range’s geometric stand and minimalist appearance, giving users ambient lighting without relying on the aggressive styling traditionally associated with gaming hardware.
What the New Evnia Monitors Mean for Malaysia
The new M4 range arrives as Malaysian gamers gain access to a broader selection of high-refresh-rate QHD monitors. Refresh rates between 165Hz and 240Hz have become increasingly common in the local market, while 300Hz and faster QHD displays generally remain premium products aimed at esports enthusiasts and buyers with high-end computers.
Philips Evnia’s strategy is to differentiate the M4 models through a combination of extreme refresh rates, AI gaming tools and certified eye-care technology. This stands in contrast to the recently launched MSI 271UPJW12 and ASUS ROG Swift Tandem RGB Monitors, which focus on new OLED panel technologies.
The Philips Malaysia website currently lists a range of Evnia gaming monitors, but the three new M4 models were not shown in its local product catalog at the time of writing. Malaysian pricing, retail availability and warranty details have also not been announced.
