MyIX Expands Ecosystem to Support Cloud and AI Workloads

As Malaysian businesses push deeper into digitalisation, connectivity is increasingly recognised as a foundational enabler rather than a background utility. This was evident recently when Maybank unveiled its ROAR30 strategy, which places strong emphasis on digital-first services, regional scale, cloud adoption and the use of data and artificial intelligence to drive productivity and customer experience.

While strategies like ROAR30 focus on outcomes such as seamless digital banking, cross-border transactions and AI-driven services, these ambitions ultimately rely on resilient, high-performance internet infrastructure operating behind the scenes, said the Malaysia Internet Exchange (MyIX) in a statement today.

“Reliable local interconnection is critical to ensuring digital platforms remain fast, secure and scalable as data volumes and real-time applications continue to grow,” said MyIX chairman Chiew Kok Hin.

Beyond enabling faster internet speeds, MyIX plays an increasingly strategic role in Malaysia’s digital transformation. As cloud adoption accelerates and AI workloads scale, the ability to route internet traffic locally is essential to maintaining service performance, lowering costs, and improving cybersecurity.

“Local interconnection ensures that data-intensive applications – from banking to logistics to creative content – can operate with the speed, reliability and responsiveness demanded by today’s economy,” added Chiew.

Against this backdrop, Citaglobal Telecommunications Sdn Bhd, Zscaler, Inc and Pr1ma Communications Sdn Bhd have become the latest companies to join the Malaysian Internet Exchange (MyIX), further strengthening local internet interconnectivity and enhancing the nation’s digital infrastructure resilience.

“By peering through MyIX, our members are empowered to directly exchange internet traffic with other local networks, enabling faster content delivery, reduced latency and improved bandwidth efficiency for end users,” said Chiew. He added that as more organisations join the exchange, the network effect becomes more powerful, with each new member enhancing efficiency and collective value while keeping internet traffic local.

Established in 2006, MyIX – also known as Persatuan Pengendali Internet Malaysia – is Malaysia’s sole neutral internet exchange platform under the purview of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

It plays a critical role in supporting the digital economy by reducing reliance on international bandwidth, improving application performance and helping businesses scale digital infrastructure more cost-effectively.

Chiew said MyIX remains committed to expanding its membership base to meet rising demand for reliable local connectivity, particularly as Malaysia advances its ambitions under AI Nation 2030.
