InfoWatch has been working with Russia’s National Research University Higher School of Economics to create a cybersecurity department as part of the School of Electronic Engineering of HSE Tikhonov Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics (MIEM HSE). Natalya Kaspersky, President of InfoWatch has been appointed as the department head.
“This department will contribute to advanced enterprise cybersecurity training. The existing shortage of skilled cybersecurity staff will become more and more dramatic as far as we go further in our journey towards the digital economy. The new department established at one of the most high-profile universities is our contribution to the fostering of Russia’s skilled engineers and the promoting of cybersecurity and related professions,” said Kaspersky.
The department will be training university students who have basic theoretical and hands-on knowledge of design, development, and testing of the software aimed to prevent enterprise data leaks and protect organizations against internal cybersecurity threats, targeted attacks, and threats related to the Internet of Things (IoT).
The department will also engage top Russian and foreign enterprise cybersecurity experts in the university’s training programs, organize academic conferences and workshops, develop educational materials, and hold practical training for students.
“Cybersecurity is a matter of utmost importance in such hi-tech sectors as IoT, cyber-physical systems, virtual and augmented reality, and aerospace technology,” said Andrey Abrameshin, Deputy Director, MIEM HSE.
According to Abrameshin, the department will help advance the training of specialists required to ensure cybersecurity of rapidly developing digital economy and will improve synergy between the university and hi-tech business.
To support the department activities, MIEM HSE will also establish a specialized lab for students to simulate various enterprise cyber threats and master combating techniques.
