Gigabyte has launched the AORUS P1600W power supply as developers and enthusiasts increasingly build powerful computers for running artificial intelligence models locally. The company first introduced the flagship power supply at COMPUTEX 2026.
The AORUS 1600W is a beast of a PSU that delivers up to 1,600W. That means it’s not aiming for the average PC and instead targets premium gaming PCs, AI workstations and systems equipped with several power-hungry components. AI developers, researchers and content creators often need such powerful components.
Gigabyte has positioned the AORUS P1600W to serve both gaming and professional computing users. It combines multi-GPU support, real-time power monitoring and integration with the company’s AI TOP platform. Local AI applications, rendering software and other GPU-accelerated tools can place sustained demands on processors and graphics cards.
Local AI Systems Need More Power

Running AI applications locally allows you to process data directly on your computer instead of relying entirely on cloud services. This approach can improve privacy, reduce recurring cloud costs, and give you greater control over your hardware. However, advanced AI workloads often require one or more powerful graphics cards.
These graphics cards can consume considerable amounts of electricity, especially during sustained processing tasks. As a result, power capacity and efficiency have become increasingly important when building local AI systems. Gigabyte says the AORUS P1600W can support configurations containing up to four graphics cards.
The power supply includes two native 16-pin-to-16-pin PCIe cables. It also comes with two dual-8-pin-to-16-pin cables for additional GPU configurations. This cable selection gives builders more flexibility when assembling systems for machine learning, 3D rendering, video production and other GPU-intensive workloads.
A Compact Design for High-End Builds
The AORUS P1600W measures just 160 mm long, making it relatively compact for a power supply with such a high output. Large power supplies can cause compatibility problems inside standard computer cases. They may leave less space for cables, cooling radiators and storage components.
The shorter chassis should make Gigabyte’s new model easier to install in a wider range of standard ATX cases. It may also provide additional room for cable routing and other internal hardware.
Gigabyte uses gallium nitride technology to achieve greater power density within the smaller enclosure. Gallium nitride, commonly called GaN, offers several advantages over conventional silicon-based components. It can support higher switching speeds while reducing energy loss and heat generation.
These characteristics allow manufacturers to produce smaller power components without significantly reducing output or efficiency.
The AORUS P1600W also uses a digital power design intended to deliver precise and responsive power. Japanese capacitors support reliability during lengthy gaming sessions and sustained computing workloads.
Titanium Efficiency Reduces Wasted Energy
The AORUS P1600W carries an 80 PLUS Titanium efficiency rating. Titanium represents the highest tier within the 80 PLUS certification program. The rating indicates that the power supply converts electricity into usable system power with relatively little energy lost as heat. Efficiency can become especially important when a computer operates under heavy loads for several hours.
A local AI workstation may run continuously while processing data, generating content, or testing different models. A more efficient power supply can reduce wasted electricity and lower the amount of heat produced inside the system. Lower heat output could also reduce the strain placed on the computer’s cooling components.
The power supply supports the ATX 3.1 and PCIe 5.1 standards. These specifications are designed to meet the requirements of modern processors and graphics cards. ATX 3.1 power supplies can also handle sudden increases in power demand more effectively. These brief power spikes can occur when high-performance graphics cards begin running intensive tasks.
Integrated Display Shows Power Data
One of the more unusual features that Gigabyte has included with the AORUS P1600W is a full-color LCD Edge View display. The screen allows you to view operating information directly from the power supply. You can also customize the display through Gigabyte Control Center.
While LCD screens already appear on some premium power supplies, Gigabyte has connected this model’s monitoring features to its wider AI TOP ecosystem. The AI TOP Utility can display power consumption alongside other system information. This monitoring could help you understand how much electricity different AI workloads require. It may also reveal whether your system is approaching the power supply’s capacity.
Developers testing multiple graphics cards, models, or software configurations could use this data to compare workload requirements more effectively.
Intelligent Cooling Supports Sustained Workloads
High-capacity power supplies need dependable cooling when operating under heavy loads. The AORUS P1600W uses a 140 mm double ball bearing fan with intelligent fan controls. The system adjusts the fan according to power demand and internal temperatures. The fan can run more slowly during light and moderate workloads, helping to reduce system noise.
Gigabyte has also included a dust-removal feature. The function briefly reverses the fan to help remove accumulated dust. Users can activate it during system startup or through the supporting software. Dust can restrict airflow and reduce cooling performance over time. Regularly reversing the fan may help keep the power supply cleaner without requiring frequent manual maintenance.
Modular Cables Simplify Complex Systems
The AORUS P1600W uses a fully modular cable system. You only need to connect the cables required by your computer, reducing unnecessary wiring inside the case. This can improve airflow and make components easier to access. A modular design can be particularly useful in workstations containing several graphics cards.
Gigabyte also supplies sleeved cables to support cleaner routing and a more polished appearance. Better cable management can make the computer easier to assemble, maintain, and troubleshoot. It also reduces the likelihood of loose cables obstructing fans or other cooling components.
Gaming and AI Hardware Continue to Converge
The AORUS P1600W shows how gaming computers and professional workstations increasingly use similar hardware. Both systems may include flagship processors, powerful graphics cards, advanced cooling systems, and high-capacity power supplies.
The main difference often involves how owners use the available performance. A gamer may prioritize frame rates and visual quality, while an AI developer may focus on model processing and GPU memory. Gigabyte appears to be targeting both groups with the same product.
The AORUS branding keeps the power supply connected to the company’s gaming range. Meanwhile, AI TOP integration, multi-GPU connectivity and power monitoring support its role in local AI systems.
The product therefore represents more than another high-output power supply. It reflects the way local AI workloads are influencing the design and marketing of enthusiast PC components.
Pricing and Availability
Gigabyte has not announced Malaysian pricing or a confirmed local release date for the AORUS P1600W at the time of writing. Its 1,600W capacity, Titanium efficiency rating and advanced monitoring features suggest it will sit near the top of the company’s power supply range. However, these features aren’t exactly what most mainstream PC builders require.
Unless we see a drastic shift in the local PC market towards specialized local AI PCs, it’s unlikely the P1600W will be suitable for the domestic audience.
