Baker Zhou has been named as the new Huawei Malaysia CEO. With over 18 years of experience in ICT industry, Zhou will oversee the strategic growth, operations and overall development of Huawei Technologies in Malaysia.

“I will lead the team to continue creating value for customers, while forming and building stronger relations with our local partners.” said Zhou outlining his vision for the future of Huawei Malaysia. “As a global enabler of ICT innovation, we look forward to driving sustainable growth and development in the country. I look forward to working with the Malaysian Government and local partners to build a better connected Malaysia.”

Since entering the Malaysia market in 2001, Huawei has grown from a handful of employees to more than 2,500 people, serving about 80% of the population in Malaysia. Working hand in hand with local telco partners, Huawei has built up high speed broadband, 3G and 4G mobile network in the country where more consumers can enjoy ubiquitous connectivity.

Today, the company has risen to the top and narrowed the gap with top smartphone brands in Malaysia including Korean giant Samsung. In Q1 2017 alone, Huawei gained 9% in market share from 8.3% in the year-earlier period.

As an enabler of digital transformation, Huawei is providing cutting-edge ICT solutions for various local vertical industries, such as energy, transportation, as well as smart city initiatives. Huawei smartphones are also prevalent in the country, especially in the high-end market category. Recently, the YouGov BrandIndex has ranked Huawei as number 6 of Malaysia’s 2017 Top 10 Brand.

Zhou joined Huawei in 1999 as an account manager. In the past, he has held several senior positions within the company, including Vice President of Huawei Indonesia, CEO of the Huawei Bangladesh, Vice President of Southeast Asia Carrier Business Group and Human Resource Director of Southeast Asia Region. Graduating in 1997, Zhou is an alumnus of Zhejiang University of Technology where he attained his bachelor degree in Industrial Automation Technology.
